SupportAssist will NOT run "Scan Hardware!"

SupportAssist will NOT run "Scan Hardware"!  It says "preparing" but nothing happens for several minutes.  Then this  message appears:

An unexpected error while running this request.

SupportAssist was unable to complete the requested task at this time.

To retry, close the SupportAssist application and run the task again.

If this problem persists, click the Get Support Tab.

The better way to run a hardware diagnostic is outside of Windows - F12 at few times before windows loads to get in.

I have an Alienware R4 and had this issue since I got the laptop in November (2017)… 52 days left on warranty.  I have tried to diagnose, done online chat with support, they ended up telling me to wait for another release.  I got one today, no change... thanks, Dell.

This has been a reoccurring problem judging from the forum posts. Go to the following thread and read the reply from the moderator. Apparently this has worked for some users.

Yup.  Mine used to be ok, and now it does the same thing.  Let's me do all of the other "scans"?

My Inspiron 7569, Windows 10, version 1809 would not run the Hardware Scan either until Firefox updated to version 63.0 yesterday. Now it runs.

This happened to me twice before I fixed it. Then it went down again and now I can’t get it to work. You can try what I did to fix it. It may work for you.

Go to PROGRAMS ...scroll down list and locate SUPPORT ASSIST (no longer under Dell Apps). Right click on SUPPORT ASSIST and click on MORE. A fly out menu will appear. Select “SETTINGS”. From here, the Windows settings for SUPPORT ASSIST will appear. Select the REPAIR option followed by RESET option if the former won’t work.

Same here.  Uninstalled and reinstalled according to the directions several times.  Still won't run the Hardware scan, though it used to do it some time ago.  I'm thinking maybe the last windows update (Fall 2018) broke the application.  It doesn't seem to be able to connect to the hardware.

Same issue with brand new XPS 13'' 9380. Despite numerous repairs, re-installs, restarts (that I picked up from the Dell Support forums and pages), it won't do the Hardware Scan step. Overall the Support Assist app seems very flaky. I have the latest version 3.1.0.142 for SupportAssist.
