Picking a laptop for a specific task
I need help to choose a laptop for 3d scanning outdoors.
I've always had good experience with Dell, so I'm here.
My job is to perform 3d scanning of archaelogical artefacts. Weight and size makes no matter as it will stay on a small table during work. Battery time is critical, I need At least 1.5-2 hours under hevy load. Or maybe There's a good external battery someone could recommend. IIdeally I'd like to have about 3 hours of autonomous work - It's only for scannig, for postprocessing I will have access to electricity.
About the hardware. I will work with Artec Studio and Artec Spider 3d Scanner. I've read the requirements, but I need to be sure, that I'll ger as good as possible compatibility of the hardware (especially graphic card). I don't care about sound, wi-fi, etc.
And there's no maximum price :)

Thank's for a tip. Yes, I see it has Quadro. I have no experience with this graphic cards, but I know Quadro was designed especially for professional draphic software.

I second ejn63's recommendation. For external batteries, there are the Dell Power Companion units, but they don't provide power at a sufficient wattage to run a Precision system, nor does any other battery pack I'm aware of, so that won't really be an option.

Hi Ivonsky, me I use Artec Eva since 4 years ( I have used Spider twice anyway ) on a Alienware of 5 years ago, with a Nvidia Geforce 970. and I tell you works perfectly. Ram 16 gb, but for complex scans I strongly suggest 32 gb. Don't trust Quadro cards, can give you problems for what I know, but Artec website, in some hidden pages, gives the list of suitable cards. Hi, guys I've chosen the Alienware m15 R1, which I'm happy with, but I don't use in field anymore as we've finally got our Leo, which doesn't require PC to scan.
I'm really happy with the laptop, as I can process my scans anywhere with no problems. Even after almost 2 years it works perfectly. I just wanted to share.
