DELL Power Edge VRTX

Hello comunity,

I am stuck in a situation with two Dell VRTX's to share the storage with one another. So i build a cluster using vmware 5.5U3 esxi hosts with vcenter 5.5 3e but blades in one of vrtx can access only the storage inside chassis.

So the question is this : since the vmware cluster is not sharing the storage for all the blades how to find a way to do it?

Hello,

When you set this up, do the iDRAC's in each node see storage connected, or is it missing only in ESXi? Or are you saying that blades in one chassis can only see the storage in their chassis, but not the other VRTX?

Hello Dylan,

Thank you for your reply. So the situation is: we have to Dell VRTX ( lets call them CMC1 for chassis 1and CMC2 for chassis 2 with storage S1 for the first chassis and S2 for the second one). A vmware cluster is  created with all the 8 blades of two vrtx. When configuring the storage for each chassis you can assign the virtual disks created only to the hosts inside the chassis. So i am wondering if there is any way to make S1 accessible for blades at CMC2 and S2 accessible for the blades of CMC1. I tryed with iSCSI software addapter but the lun cant be assigned for the specified hosts outside the chassis.

Do you think is there a way of solution for this situation or vrtx storage can only be accessible for the machines inside the chassis?

I appreciate the clarification. That storage is accessible by SAS, and the connections are internal only.

The VRTX does support a Shared PERC E that would connect to an external SAN, though. If storage common to both chassis' is necessary, something like this may be your better option.
