The other day i was playing games when i noticed my "2" "w" "s" and "x" keys just randomly stop working every other keys work but if i press them repetitively they work but after few minutes they go back to not working. I have tried using a external keyboard on the external keyboard it works fine but the keys on the laptop does not work any solution ?

Thank you for your message. Does the key not work only when gaming or does it not work irrespective of the applications used?

An external keyboard working fine is an indication that it could be the physical keyboard.

Has there been any liquid spillage on the keyboard? Please try using an air can to clear off any dust accumulated & check if the keys respond.

For my reference, please click on the message tab next to your avatar– click “New Message” & search for my Dell username (Sreejith R) & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

How to find service tag.

No the keys does not work both on game plus on other application. When spam hit the keys several time repetitively they would work for like 20 seconds then they wont work anymore unless i spam hit the **bleep** out of them plus sometimes they dont always work when i do that. There has been no liquid spillage and on a external keyboard those same keys work fine but the keys on the laptop they are not working properly.

This seems to be an issue with the physical keyboard. If the system is under warranty I can assist you with the part replaced, please share the service tag on a private message.

If the warranty has expired. You can speak to our out of warranty team & they can assist you with the part replacement on a chargeable basis.

Hi,

I have the same issue. The same keys 2/W/S/X do not work unless i hit it several times. Were you able to get this resolved with a keyboard change ?

Thanks

I was about to have a rant about these keyboards. I have a Dell Inspiron 13 5000 and had the same issue. Buttons 2, w, s, x and Caps Lock worked intermittently and then not at all. There are so many people out there with this issue and I was going to collect up a list of urls of people with the same problem. But when looking for other people with this issue I came across a solution that looked as though it could work, and low and behold; it did!

So for anyone out there have keyboard issues, check this out: https://www.dell.com/community/Inspiron/Keyboard-not-working-on-Dell-Inspiron-15-5000-series/td-p/6034047

The same set of keys, and also Caps Lock. I'm surprised at the number of people facing the same problem. Is Dell aware of this? Not to mention that this issue shows up just when the laptop goes out of warranty.

That being said, hard pressing the keys keeps them working for a while. Using an external keyboard seems is a reliable solution. I'll be forever grateful if anyone comes up with a permanent fix for this.

I was having same problem but only like the t,y,g,h,v,b,n,m keys were working, So I took out the battery and pressed power button to drain battery, Then I just reset BIOS and it worked for me.

There is no generic answer -- if you have a keyboard brush (or even a clean, soft bristle unused paintbrush) you can try gently sweeping around the keys.  If that doesn't work, you'll need to replace the keyboard.  It could be anything from worn-out key actuators to damaged traces on the flex landings, to just plain blockage due to debris.

Hi SreejithR

I have also been facing a similar issue since a few months, on an Inspiron 7559. The next keys were intermitently not responding: main ENTER, M, C, V. A few days ago, almost the whole lower line stopped working: z, x, c, v, m, , or ; , . or :,  and right shift, right CTRL, main ENTER, plus some keys from the extended, numeric pad: 5, 6, *, -

It works flawlessly with an external keyboard. I bought a new internal keyboard, same part number, and it did not work.

The same behaviour under Fedora Linux 36 (have dual partition).

I have downgraded the BIOS to 1.2.7 version. Had to use the /FORCEIT option from command line, since I have no battery installed (had to dispose of it, that original battery was expanding and overheating the computer). No changes so far. Reinstalled the Chipset and I/O packs with older versions by running:

7559_Chipset_Driver_CM8VV_WN32_30.100.1519.7_A00.exe

7559_Chipset_Driver_WXM90_WN32_10.1.1.7_A00.exe

Would overheating by gaming be a related issue? Some broken circuit line in the MOBO? Should I tear it apart as I once did for deep cleaning, and try to find a broken line?
