Removing BCVs from pair for migration

Hello,I will be migrating metas on two development servers from our Symmetrix DMX-2000 to our VNX. I found that in addition to the database metas, there are 13 BCVs associated with the two servers linked to production. The BCVS have never been used and are never sync/split with production, however, they are in a split state. I want to get rid of these on the new environment and not migrate them since they are not used. I am afraid though that when I unzone the servers from the Symmetrix I will cause an issue on production. How do I delete the BCVs before migration and not affect production? Many thanks in advance. - Admingirl

You might need to use the -force option --

symmir -g test cancel DEV001 BCV ld BCV001 -force

Hi Admin Girl,

First of all I dont think even Your BCV's are associated with standard Production and Never Synced/Split and You unzone the Server from SYMM it will create any issue in The Production servers.BCV's are a logical Mirror Position of the Standard Volume and should not hv any impact unless you issue the restore command from BCV to Production volumes.

Secondly you can safely remove the pairing relationship of BCV and standard volume using the below syntax--

symmir -g Test_DG cancel [BCV ld ]

make sure BCVs are not in use, some environemtn will map/mask BCVs to backup/dev/qa servers.
