recovery fails after we add more than 12000 files at a single point in time

Let me make sure we have all the information before we proceed any further. First of all I am trying to understand the statement "is coming out recovery prompt...". Do you mean to say that you are taken back to current working directory (e.g.:- c:\) and say if you add 11999 immediately after you were exited, during the next recovery the files are recoved successfully?

There were some bugs reported for users not able to recover more than 10000 files with NetWorker 7.6.x. Have a look at the release notes for known issues using recover.

After we initiate recovery for those more than 12000 files, i get recovery initiation message but the sessions seems to be hung for long time and it automatically comes out of the recovery prompt after some time.

What are we talking about - browsing or recovering?

In the browse phase, for instance when you open a directory with a huge number of files (GUI or CLI does not matter), NW will show you all filenames. In the GUI (Windows) you will see each filename rushing through at the bottom status line. This happens pretty fast - even for 1 mio files. Next, the interface seems to stall and - depending on your system - it can take minutes until it will become available again.

I do not remember what happed when you select the files. Maybe the same effect would reappear.

However, the recovery itself should not cause any troubles at all.

Is this normal file system recovery of NDMP based one? If you are restoring whole file system, easy way out is by using ssid restore.
