The client name "foo" is either not valid or does not have NetWorker client 7.5 and above

Hi all,

I am trying out Networker 7.6 server on a IBM x3775 running RHEL 6.3 with hostname "foo". In the management console (running on a Windows XP VM), when I try to I configure the client "foo" 's save sets by going to client properties, general tab and click on the search folder button, I got this message 'The client name "foo" is either not valid or does not have NetWorker client 7.5 and above'. Any idea why? The version is 7.6SP3 so definitely "7.5 and above".

On the other hand, 'save -s foo some_file' works fine.

I would appreciate any clue on how to troubleshoot this error.

Might be that you miss alias for foo client.

Also check name FQDN & Short name resloution subjected client, it should pass through....

Hi,

Try to do the following from the backup server to the networker client ( using short name and FQDN name):

  • check hosts-file if you can find the client
  • ping
  • nslookup
  • rpcinfo -p
  • nsradmin -s client_name  -p 390113

  If this all works, try to do the following from the client to the backup server ( using short name and FQDN name): 

  • check hosts-file if you can find the backup server
  • check server file under the nsr directory if the backup server is added there
  • ping
  • nslookup
  • rpcinfo -p
  • nsradmin -s backup-server -p 390113

You may have to add this an alias but firstly run on the client cmd the command:  nsradmin -s client_name -p 390113 , and when you are on the nsradmin prompt run the command print , then check the name and the IP address of this machine if they are correct or not.

Try deleting the client from list/group and re-add. It worked for me.
