SANCOPY Migration from AX4-5 to VNX5400
Dear All,
We have recently procured VNX5400. We have our old Storage AX4-5.
We want to do the migration from AX4-5 to VNX5400.
We have SANCOPY license installed at VNX5400. We don't see SANCOPY license at AX4-5 system.
I have connected Fibre cables. Initiators are visible at the AX4-5 Storage.
SAN COPY Storage Group Config
There is no visibility of such Initiators at VNX5400.
So we cant move ahead for the migration.
Is it due to license? Plz help.
Thank you.

If you are using Pull method, at least SANCopy Enabler should be installed on your AX.
If you are using Push method, you can get one enabler from EMC for free for migration.
Refer this detailed White Paper for Migration religiously: http://www.emc.com/collateral/hardware/white-papers/h8173-migrating-clariion-vnx-san-copy-wp.pdf

Hi Ankit,
Thanks for your valuable reply.
If you are using Pull method, at least SANCopy Enabler should be installed on your AX.
==> OK. We are not going to use Pull method.
If you are using Push method, you can get one enabler from EMC for free for migration.
==> Is it the AX Enabler? We already have VNX5400 with SANCOPY Enabled.
Refer this detailed White Paper for Migration religiously: http://www.emc.com/collateral/hardware/white-papers/h8173-migrating-clariion-vnx-san-copy-wp.pdf
==> Following the same.

No, he's referring to the VNX enabler in the push method. You are good to go in that case since you already have the enabler loaded. Check to see if you have Snapview loaded as well since you will need that if you want to do SANCopy Incremental.

Hi,
We do have SanpView loaded as well.
We have contacted EMC for enabler. Hoping that they will not ask money for it.
Will post the update.
Thanks

Hi,
Just now got the update from EMC team that the AX4-5 to VNX5400 Migration is not supported. They have attached one PDF with compatibility matrix.
Here is the screenshot of it. Is it true?

If your AX4-5 has FC Controllers than it is supported.
Refer: https://www.emc.com/collateral/software/white-papers/h2099-emc-clariion-san-copy-wp.pdf Page 10.

Now SANCOPY PUSH with FULL and Incremental is working :
Followed below Steps :
1) Got SANCOPY Enabler license installed on AX4-5
2) Did the zoning of SPA(AX) to SPA(VNX) and SPB(AX) to SPB(VNX)
3) Created same number of RLP (Reserved Pool LUN) on AX system as total Migration LUNs count
4) As in our environment AX was not visible as SANCOPY Connection, we manually registered it as a Host.
5) Created New Storage group called SANCOPY and shown all Destination LUNs of VNX5400 to it.
6) Added the AX4-5 System in the Console of VNX5400 with the help of Multidomain Configuration (This allowed us to see the source and destination properly, without using WWN numbers of LUN)
7) Created SANCOPY Incremental Sessions for Each LUN
Thanks everyone for giving valuable inputs.

Latest version of Unity has an import function (there is no SanCopy on Unity) that allows a VNX to send data to the Unity. You need SanCopy installed on the VNX.
I do not believe that AX4 is supported. You can use host migration to do the same thing.
