Planned Shutdown of VNX5500 with Mirrorview

Hello everyone,

one of our customers needs to shut down their VNX5500 systems soon. The power company will be performing maintenance at their site, and their UPS/Generator won't be able to carry the load during the outage, so they need to shut everything down in their server rooms.

They have 2x VNX5500 (Unified), replicating Block-LUNs bi-directionally using Mirrorview/S (some primary LUNs are on one system, other primary LUNs are on the other). The mirrored LUNs are SAN-attached to hosts, not the Data Mover.

I have provided the power-down sequence for the VNX to the customer (Document "System Operations" P/N 300-013-448 from support website), but my question has to do with MirrorView. Since both systems will be shutdown, I assume that all mirrors will be system-fractured. What about when powering back up? Will the mirrors automatically re-sync as soon as the link between the 2 systems is back online? Are there any other "gotchas" they need to look out for?

Thanks and regards,

Stephen

if link drops they will system fracture. If policy is set to auto-recover ..they should restart automatically.  Key word is "should".  If it's a scheduled activity i like to control what happens so if i were you i would manually fracture secondary image from both array perspective and then when both systems are back online, manually re-sync them. How many Mirror view sessions are we talking about ?

Hi, thanks for the answer. It's about 20-30 LUNs in total, I think.

If I remember correctly, they are not using consistency groups.

ok, you can whip up a little script to fracture the secondary image using naviseccli if you don't want to click around 20 times.

are they in a consistency group or "stand alone" pairs ?
