Importing/Exporting Cluster settings from One Isilon Cluster to another
Community,
I have been asked to investigate if its possible to export settings from a source Isilon cluster to a new Isilon cluster that will be replacing the source cluster. Settings from a OneFS 7.1.1.4 to a OneFS 7.2.1.4.
The settings that would need to be exported from the source and imported to the new are as followed:
- Quotas
- Shares
- Exports
- Notification settings
- Snapshot schedules
- SyncIQ schedules
- ACLs
BASICALLY ALL THE SETTINGS!
Let me know if this is possible and is there documentation that supports your claim?
Thank you,
- Chris

chjatwork,
Can you use smartpools? More details in the KB.

Hi
Superna Eyeglass can do this and failover from old to new cluster. We offer a service to migrate or fail away from the old cluster if you don't want to own the software as well. See below on supported sync of config. The below items are continous sync until cut over day. We also over isilon to isilon config and access zone aware migration feature.
Regards
Andrew

Andrew,
How quickly from start to finish could this be accomplished in... ALL the migration of the settings? How do we get this started? What is the cost of the onetime migration service... don't want to own the software.
Thank you,

Phil,
This was mentioned and maybe the choice depending on cost of alternative processes. But we are talking about 3.8P of data that will have to be moved to this new cluster. The source cluster and the new cluster are in different buildings. Just physically painful the process for moving the entire cluster to perform this task.

Hi chjatwork
This is the service description http://documentation.superna.net/eyeglass-isilon-edition/get-help/eyeglass-services/configuration-migration-service
Is any of this data Synced to the new cluster? Is that the plan to SyncIQ or copy the data over some other way?
Eyeglass needs the path to exist on the target cluster to sync the config (shares, exports, quotas).

Andrew,
[You] Is any of this data Synced to the new cluster?
[Me] The new cluster isn't even turned on yet so no.
[You] Is that the plan to SyncIQ or copy the data over some other way?
[Me] The plan is to SyncIQ the data over.
[You] Eyeglass needs the path to exist on the target cluster to sync the config (shares, exports, quotas).
[Me] This is good to know.

If you email sales@superna.net your name, company name, request to quote
migration service and EMC rep or partner we can follow up.
Would be good to setup a call to get more details and can be requested
through sales email above.
Regards
Andrew

You can use isiBackup for this.
IsiBackup allows you to make backups of all configuration items available through the GUI of OneFS. IsiBackup does not store the actual data (files and folders) that reside on the file system. IsiBackup focuses on the systems configuration elements, such as: access zones, smb shares, nfs exports, quotas, network configurations etc.
IsiBackup allows you to keep track of all the configuration changes that have taken place on the cluster between calls to IsiBackup. It can be launched automatically at regular intervals and it will send notifications by email when configuration changes are detected.
This software can also restore specific Isilon configuration items, provided that they have been previously saved by IsiBackup. The restoration of configuration can be performed on the same cluster or another cluster. For example, it is possible to duplicate elements from one cluster to another.
Networks shares and quotas can also be restored on a different access zone as needed.
Here's how to restore thousands of quotas with IsiBackup in less than 90 seconds: https://goo.gl/w7Ns7Z

Check out Isibackup. https://gallium-it.com/isibackup
IsiBackup is a software application used to perform backups of Isilon cluster configurations. It will back up all the available configuration objects that can be modified through the OneFS graphical user interface.
IsiBackup will not backup the actual data (files and folders) that resides on the Isilon Filesystem. Only the configuration objects are backed up, such as: Access Zones definitions, NFS exports, SMB shares, quotas, network subnets and pools, etc.
IsiBackup will also keep track of all configuration changes that have occurred on the cluster between IsiBackup invocations.
This software also can be used to restore specific Isilon configuration objects, provided they have been previously backed up using IsiBackup. Restoration can be performed on the same cluster or a different cluster. For example, one could backup an entire production cluster configuration and restore part of it on a test cluster. Network shares and exports can also be restored on a different access zone.
