9030 AIO, M.2 slot

I found this article which summarises the m.2 nvme drive specifications but unfortunately does not include the 9030 All in one desktop which has a B-keyed 2242 m.2 slot.

My question to the community is what is the specification of this m.2 slot. Is it mSata or PCI-e x2?  If PCI-e x2 is it backwards compatible with mSata?

Did you ever find an answer to your question? I'm trying to figure this out myself.

I tried an m.2 2242 Sata drive, but it didn't show up. I'm not sure where to go next.

I got an m.2 NVMe drive working in my 9030 AIO!

step 1 is reflash your bios, see what happens  and B cards are legacy. and not NVME at all.

the BIOS must have the NVME support inside to use any baseline NVME card.

also the M slotted card will not fit a B sloted  mobo.

 

there is one exception to this, the Samsung special class of (legacy) M.2, that has its own bios chip that allows legacy PC to boot with only this card.

the other trick is using USB stick that has a special boot strap, that then uses and boots the modern M.2 card.

samsung sells the special m.2,  its not some secret, for legacy

sales are low as most legacy owners are too cheep to pop for this expensive card.

Well done! I'm just coming back to this after a long break. I've finally got a 2242 Toshiba BG3 SSD which is recognized in Windows explorer as a storage drive but it seems that the BIOS doesn't recognize the PCIE slot as a bootable drive and no amount of tweaking changes that. One day I might try the Clover method - thanks for the link. To Dell: is there any likelihood of a solution where the BIOS can load the PCIE controller to enable booting from it?
