XPS 13 9360 - intel chipset driver update

got an XPS 13 9360 running Windows 10 Home.
did a complete wipe and clean re-install (ie not using dell restore).

upon completation of install i installed the dell supportassistant and got it to check what drivers were needed. only 3 were needed, of which 1 was Intel Chipset <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

it installed and said it was successful. however on going to   and letting it detect what drivers are needed, it keeps saying that this intel chipset driver is required, upon downloading it and installing it (and rebooting), checking again says it's still needed.

so what's going on?

that's what i have done.
i downloaded the installer from the site, then manually installed it.
the install completed with no errors, i rebooted.
checked the site again and it prompts that it still needs updated.

there are no outstanding windows update.

Thank you for your message. What is the Support Assist version installed?

Please try updating the Chipset driver directly from the Support Site, restart the computer complete all Windows update & restart the computer again & check if you still get a pop.

For my reference, please click on the message tab next to your avatar– click “New Message” & search for my Dell username (Sreejith R) & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

How to locate the service tag

Same issue here. No matter how and how many times I install it, dell support web site checks again it wants to install it again.

explain how to remove the intel chipset driver, as it's not something that is listed as a removeable program.
why does it feel like the responses i'm getting from dell are stock copy/paste answers?

Hi j1922,

Thanks for posting.  Apologies that your system is not performing as expected.

Have you tried removing the driver, shutting down the computer, then restarting the computer to allow the native drivers to install?  Please try that and post back.

You will only be able to refresh the driver or overwrite the Chipset. Please share the service tag I will have this checked on the Dell Support Assist backend tool.

Intel chip set drivers need to be installed first before all other drivers. Note that the details for that update say this--

Intel Chipset Device Software uses an older date for the devices it is targeting. The date 07/18/1968 is symbolic.
Intel was founded that day. The reason this date is use is to lower the rank of Intel Chipset Device Software.
This is necessary since it's a supporting utility that should not overwrite any other drivers. You do not need to update Intel Chipset Device software.

I have no idea what that means but it sounds like that is why you can't install it. See what the moderators advise.

not sure how that is possible considering windows 10 has most of the required drivers installed during installation.
besides, if that was the case then why does the dell website keep advising that it needs installed.

this forum is an absolute joke.
so i reply to the DM with devices details, i get a reply which i then try to reply to, only to be told i can't send any more DMs at the moment because i have sent too many.... so 1 DM is too many?

i have finally managed to reply to the DM.

as i reported in the forum, it's the dell website that is reporting that the chipset drivers need updating, not the support tool.
please keep the discussion on the forum rather than via DM

which i did, and got a reply that wasn't relevant to what the thread is about.
