XPS 8930, create RAID 1 with IRST, unknown error

I'm trying to create a RAID 1 array on my XPS 8930.  I have two identical 2TB drives.  Both were RAID drives on another machine. I now want to set them both up as a RAID 1 array on the XPS 8930.  I selected Sata and RAID 1, then keep data on SATA disk 1, then confirm delete the data on the second disk.  Then IRST goes to work for a few seconds then an error pops up:

"An unknown error occurred while an operation was in progress.  The operation could not be completed."  I click ok and it says "The volume was ceated successfully" only it wasn't.  There is no array displayed in IRST.

The help option says reboot and try again... nothing else.  That didn't help.

Any suggestions?

If I understand, you took 2 drives that were in a RAID1 array in some other PC and installed them in the XPS 8930 to create a new array...

Is BIOS set to RAID?

Unless the other machine has identical hardware, you have will to do a clean install of Win 10 on these drives when they're installed in the XPS  8930.

For clarification, there is an SSD drive in the XPS 8930 that has the OS.  These two RAID drives are just plain storage drives.  BIOS is set to RAID ON.  I had one of the 2TB drives installed as just a media storage drive.  That has been working fine for several months.  I just now installed the second 2TB drive trying to create the RAID 1 array.

Do you know this motherboard supports RAID1 between 2 drives, that don't include the boot drive?

Have you searched this forum to see if anyone else has done what you're trying to do?

1. Good, perfect.

2. Good.

3. It would be better to just make it Drive-E . Macrium-Reflect Image backup the whole system (with Verify on) to E: daily.

I do a Monthly Full and then 31 Daily Differentials. More detailed setup directions are here somewhere.

Skip trying to run a RAID on a desktop. (have also posted several times ... details about why this is a bad idea).
