M1000e Network Upgrads
We have a m1000e chassis and I need to upgrade/replace the networking on two of the fabrics.
Currently:
- A1: Cisco Catalyst WS-CBS3130G-S
- A2: Cisco Catalyst WS-CBS3130G-S
- C1: M8024-k 10GbE SW
- C2: M8024-k 10GbE SW
We want to replace all four switches with the Force10 MXL 10/40G I/O Aggregator. To do the upgrade without downtime I need to be able to remove and replace one switch at a time. The networking cards on the blades are capable of using the new switches, but I'm worried that running different switches between the same fabric will cause problems with the blade chassis.
During the change I will temporary need to run:
- A1: Cisco Catalyst WS-CBS3130G-S
- A2: Force10 MXL 10/40G
- C1: M8024-k 10GbE SW
- C2: Force10 MXL 10/40G
If I were to have a Cisco switch and a MXL switch in the same fabric will the chassis become unhappy with the configuration for the A fabric? In this configuration will the blades be able to use both switches?
If I were to have a M8024-k switch and a MXL switch in the same fabric will the chassis become unhappy with the configuration for the C fabric? In this configuration will the blades be able to use both switches?

Hi,
Having them mixed like that may cause issues, we do not validate configurations like that, so it may or may not work.
