Inspiron 3650 only 100mps internet connection via ethernet

Hi all,

I have an Inspiron 3650 with the original network card installed.

I have connected the computer directly to my router ASUS AC-3200 -- not via wireless.

My cable connection is 200mbps but running internet speed tests shows that my speed is a little less than 100mps.

Do I need to replace my network card (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller) to one that supports a higher speed as it appears according to the driver settings available that it maxs out at 100mbps?

Wow!  Nobody has replied.  Can I get a little help?

Check out these threads and see if your problem matches what many of us have been experiencing.

FWIW, I had no problem uninstalling SmartByte as an administrator. As a precaution I also uninstalled SupportAssist - guilt by association if you like - but I do not know for sure if I needed to.  However, my download speed fully returned the instant I removed SmartByte (50 Mbps as opposed to the miserable 11 Mbps and declining with SmartByte running) and SmartByte has not re-appeared in any way - at least, not yet! if it does, I will treat it in the same way I would a virus.

BTW, if you check the advanced settings of your network driver in the posted illustration you will see the first entry is Gbps which is way faster than 200 Mbps - that's not the problem.

Perhaps I should have said before, but if I were you I would examine if updating my driver for the network card solved the problem before messing with SmartByte - my driver (for what I believe is the same network card as yours) is version 10.34.307.2019. I had to download this directly from the Realtek web site as it is much more recent than the one available to me via Windows. It didn't solve my problem, but might solve yours.

(This is a briefer version of another post from me which I cannot see here; apologies for any repetition if it suddenly turns up)

I came across a solution to what sounds like your problem and it is counterintuitive. It is in the last post of this very brief thread with a title which will seem horribly familiar to you https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/getting-100mbps-not-200mbps-download-speed.2879934/

Obviously if I were you I would examine if updating my driver for the network card solved the problem before messing with SmartByte - my driver (for what I believe is the same network card as yours) is version 10.34.307.2019. Sorry to revive an old thread but the answer is very simple, Dell has screwed over the consumer by only installing 10/100 cards on the mother boards in the Inspiron line. I guess they must feel wireless is the wave of the future leaving those of use that want and require faster than 100 access to either buy from another company or add on USB ethernet dongle.
