17 R4, not detecting external HDD

My Alienware 17 R4 does not detect my Western Digital 1TB External HDD . I have tested it on all ports but still no sound or any notification that the drive was connected.

I have also updated all my drivers. However, after each update and a new scan on the official page, i am notified that a particular chipset driver requires an update which i have done several times with a success response.
