PowerEdge T320 with Perc H310 controller drive failure
This server is configured with two raid 1 virtual drives. Drives are cabled. On the first virtual drive, which contains the boot partition, drive 0 has failed. The server is still operational, but I am not sure how to approach the drive replacement. I went into OMSA and see the following under physical disks. For the failed drive it shows no task available and if I click on the pull down there are no other options to remove the drive. On other cabled Dell servers I recall going into OMSA and removing the failed drive first, replacing the drive and then going back into OMSA to add the new drive as a hot spare, though it has been a while since I've had to deal with a drive failure. Since this is the boot partition, I am concerned about the OS. I haven't tried rebooting the server yet. What is the best course of action? I appreciate any help on this.

JBCT,
First I would make sure you have a backup of the data, it is good practice to do so when doing anything with the raid.
After that, since the drives are cabled, you would power down the server and remove the failed drive. After that then connect the replacement and power back on, from there you can use OMSA to monitor and start the rebuild.

Thanks for the information. One more question, after changing the drive and going back into OMSA do I then add the new drive as a hot spare?

You can do in OMSA or you can boot to the raid controller BIOS to assign it as well. Once assigned as a HotSpare the drive should start the rebuild.

I swapped out the failed drive, set it as a hot spare and the array rebuilt. However, if I look at disk management the drive numbers have changed. Previously the 2 virtual disks were labeled as harddisk 0 and 1 and the external USB drive was harddisk 2. Now the USB drive is harddisk0 and the virtual disks are 1 and 2. Is this ok?
