17 R5, no supported AlienFX devices were detected

WIn 10 64, May update. Alienware 17R5. Bios 1.7, AWCC 5.2.37

Uninstalled, reinstalled. Registry does show that it detects devices, and lights work - I just can't change them

After months of AWCC not working whatsoever, and even more months of constant blue keyboard, I'm finally able to control my fan speed and lighting. Thank you for finding a working solution!

I will say that the process didn't exactly follow yours - after Step 17, AWCC's app for some reason uninstalled itself and I had to re-install from the Windows Store (whereupon I had to allow through UAC, enable content with identification, and relaunch.) Additionally, every time I opened the AWCC app afterwards, I had to enable the content through identification. Lastly, in Step 12, trying to run Modify->Repair would always lead to a fatal error 1603. However, I was able to progress to the next steps without incident.

Thanks ZephyrNelo, this worked for me too. I didn't even have to enable administrator account or log out/log in as user #1. Still trying to figure out why it broke in the first place...

Maybe this simplifies it. I downloaded the updated 10/25 version off dell site (https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=v1yd3) and ran it. Did the uninstall to remove it completely. Ran it again to install and worked perfectly. Have fun.

The no alienfx device detected happened again yesterday after a windows 10 update. Solved in control panel -> uninstall programs -> selected awcc and did a repair. This time it worked without having to do the McScruffy steps. After the repair, awcc fx worked even without restarting windows.

@Alienware-Joe As you told me, i have done complete wipe out of windows 10 and when i install AWCC and open the same message "NO SUPPORTED ALIENFX WAS FOUND"...its been 6 months im trying....i did everything from internet and dell website and still it doesn't want to work....this is a shame to dell Alienware team as they charge of amount and they dont even know how to fix a tiny issue that make the laptop sad to use......im fed up of emailing dell support to fix my issue...i think even dell team dont know how to fix this issue.

It appears to be a UAC issue.  I had the same issue after AWCC did an update.  Uninstalled/re-installed in the normal way from my user account.  Turns out that the problem in my case is that the registry is the problem.  By that I mean that when the update installed it did not use administrative rights even though my use account has full administrative rights.  So I ended up having to uninstall from the Administrator account and use a registry cleaner to get rid of all references in the the registry user accounts to the AWCC software.  Used Revo Uninstaller to do it rather than Windows control panel.  Downloaded the latest version of AWCC and OC Controls from Dell Support and installed them in the Administrator account using the 'Run as Administrator' command (right click on install file).   This fixed everything and AWCC ran without a hitch after that in Administrator account.  I think I also had to re-install in the user account as well.  I had a big long post on how to do this but Dell's system tagged it as spam and deleted it.  I hope this message isn't wiped out by them, too.

17 R5 continues to be dark and install of updated AWCC says AlienFX devices not detected (again). When is Dell / Alienware going to write good code?

My 15 R4 has lights but I am unable to change them. FX not detected.
I'm coming up on a year with it like this! What's the point on having a fancy AW if one doesnt have access to its signature party pieces?

Hi!

My 15R4 lights not working after Win10 1909 update...uninstall/reinstall many times the AWCC and the Win10, but no lights just "Not supported AlienFX device detected" message.BIOS 1.8.1 AWCC 5.2.81.0 ,A00...OC Controls tab working.
This is a sw or hw issue?

It's weird, yesterday I just decided to try and run ACC just for the heck of it(gave up trying for a week or 2).  I got the usual 'AFX devices not detected' but this time it gave me the pop up update, it hasn't done that in a while so I updated, restarted, and while it was restarting I got the rainbow keyboard lighting which I haven't seen it do that in a very long time!  I had a brief moment of hope but no, still nothing. Seems like it wants to get going, but something is . Why is this so difficult for Dell to fix!!
