Inspiron 5570 not turning on

I left my 14 month old 5570 running on AC power, came back to it several hours later and it had turned off and would not restart. No problems with this unit before this.

I noticed that when I plug in the AC adapter, the power light beside the plug comes on for about a second and then turns off again. I removed the lower cover, removed the battery, held down the power button for 30 seconds (for hard reset), reinstalled the battery but no joy. I removed the battery completely and tried on AC power only but same result - power light comes on for a second then goes out with or without the battery installed.

I suspecting the AC power interface board has gone south but maybe there is another approach???

Should I pull the coin battery to reset the bios?

What really hacks me off is that just the day before this happened, I got a got a DellSupportAssistant notice informing me my warranty had expired and would I like an extended service contract - which I of course ignored .... Arrrrrgh!!!

Ok, I'm back in business! Ya baby!!!!

So it turns out that the hard reset (pressing power button for 30 seconds) worked after a 3rd try. Beforehand I pulled the coin battery from the BIOS (not sure if this made a difference or not). Anyway, while holding the power button this time, I noticed the AC power LED flashed after about 30 seconds this time and so I let off the power button immediately - and low and behold, I got the display light up with the DELL logo and reboot. Had to reconfig the BIOS but no worries.

I did not notice the AC LED flash previously so I am I not really sure what I did different this time (other than the coin battery reset).

And I pulled both SSD's and memory module to check if any of these were holding the system down but this was not the case.

Anyway, for future reference, others take note of the AC LED flash that I assume indicates the reset worked...

Google for Dell's troubleshooting guide. I don't have the URL handy.

It does sound like either your DC jack board is bad or your motherboard is bad.

There's a short circuit in the system.  There is no such thing as an "AC power interface board" --  the only AC power is on the wall side of the power supply.  There is a DC power jack, which is the first suspect and likely the first thing you'll want to try replacing:

Yep, worked for me too! Didn't bother disconnecting the bios battery: main battery only. Held down the button for 30 seconds with AC adapter connected, waited for it to flash, let go the button and wait for about 60 seconds as it found its way back to display and BIOS reset info screen. Brilliant!

Pulling out the bios battery for a few seconds worked for me.

Same problem with 5570.  The day after I bought the computer I did some system update and had my first problem:  no sign of life on boot. Fixed it by luck and was too lazy to return the computer. SInce then, problem re-occurs a few times per year but I use the trick of holding down power button and release when double-flash. No need to open things up and remove battery etc, but it is still an iffy procedure-- have to try more than once, plugged and unplugged-- and am not sure exactly what makes the difference between when it works and does not.  BUT NOW something has changed: I have to re-load the operating system!  Worse yet:  I  reloaded twice in the last 2 days, so this may be the end!  As I say, if I were not so lazy I should have returned the computer on day 2.

I had the same problem and I put a new CMOS battery in, and it booted fine.

Ok so I’ve had this problem a few times, once took battery out, but this time I was in Thailand with no tools, battery flat not booting, I plugged 2 power supplies in and it booted! I think the issue is there’s not enough power to boot and charge a completely flat battery… or something like that
