WD19 docking stations - network dropout, USB dropout across multiple models
We are facing issues with WD19s losing Ethernet connections pretty consistently and also USB dropping out randomly throughout the day.
This happens with our latitude 5400 laptops.
The issue persists after we had the motherboard and other parts replaced, 3 new WD19's, and fresh installs of OEM image and latest BIOS and drivers on laptop and dock.
The issue does NOT occur with the WD15 dock and 5400 latitude.
Dell indicated moths ago there would be an August update of the docks firmware. This has not been released.
Has Dell acknowledged this as a known issue ?- there seems to be multiple posts with this same issue with other laptop models.
We were planning on purchasing this model for our fleet...
Dell, any comment?

We have found that when Win10 1903 was deployed, it changed the settings on the adapter.
We are testing but here is what we did. Found that it was updated during install with the c:\windows\INF\OEM50.inf information. That showed us what keys to modify.
Using the following information to apply via GPO
We then looked for the "Device Key" of the network adapter and found that it was the same key for all our WD19s.
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0004 and set EnableExtraPowerSaving and EnableGreenEthernet values to 0 (disabled)

All of my users now use 330w bricks.

See if that helps

Still plagued with this issue on a number of our Latitude laptops with WD19's, but investigating deeper I feel my own issues may differ somewhat to others. And potentially more of a Windows 10 type issue rather that hardware specifically
As some mentioned we were seeing dropouts when users walked away/locked machine and after a random time once user returned they would find either a notification of network drop out or application disconnect. Ensuring that the laptop was not going to sleep, and had adjusted all recommended power settings set to no avail.
Initially in the event logs I was seeing repeated RADIO ON, RADIO OFF withing a period of a some seconds indicating that the wifi card had enabled itself then disabled- hence the network drop from being hardwired.
Trying to understand what the actual trigger is for the RADIO ON, RADIO OFF event I am seeing this correspond with Windows time service. The pattern of events I am seeing are:
-user locks workstation and goes away for a random period
-windows time service has problem contacting Domain controller (event ID 129)
-Wifi card enables
-wifi card disables
-time service sync succeeds
This however is not 100% ability to replicate in test, and I am still trying to understand why a problem with time service is enabling the wifi card, when the LAN connection to the dock station is present.
At the moment we have just had to advise a workaround for the users to work over wifi to prevent Windows or whatever triggering a wifi on wifi off event when hardwired through the WD19.

I have the exact same issue as you with the WD19TB and the same screen... Dell P2418HZm.
Have you found any solution around this?

Hello community,
realtek seems to provide a new driver for the usb nic embeded in the WD19 docking station.
https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/network-interface-controllers-10-100-1000m-gigabit-ethernet-usb-3-0-software
At least they changed a setting for the RTL8153Bx64_DELL.ndi to disable AdaptiveLinkSpeed by default.
[RTL8153Bx64_DELL.ndi.NT]
...
AddReg = BatteryModeLinkSpeed.reg, DisableAdaptiveLinkSpeed.reg
Does anyone already had the chance to test this new driver? So far i can't find it on the Dell support pages but i would expect that the drivers will also be provided in the next weeks.

Tried that new Realtek driver... installed it, and it continued to bounce.
I'm done with the dock ethernet. I just run the network from the laptop itself now. I don't move my machine much so it isn't a huge inconvenience, but it still really bugs me that this issue still happens and the support seems to have vaporized.

We're seeing the same issue with a couple of Latitude 5401's. It looks like, when the dock is connected (WD15 or WD19), any USB device that is connected via USB hub (including the dock itself) will randomly disconnect.
We've seen the same behaviour with keyboards, mice, the Ethernet adaptors connected to the doc or other hubs.
Everything updated to the latest firmware/drivers and running 1903.
It also appears to be worse 'after lunch', i.e. after the computers have been left unattended for a period of time.
And to reiterate, if we then disconnect the dock, other USB devices connected directly or through USB hubs start working fine.
Thanks,
Mat

We resolved this on our machines by rolling out a script that does this.
The Dock needs to have been connected in order for the reg key to exist.
All this does is looks for "green ethernet" and disables it.

A really terrible work-around is to go into the BIOS and disable "WLAN"... now zero docking problems, but no WiFi!
