Fingerprint Sensor stopped, fixes made it worse

I have an Inspiron 15 5584, bought new summer 2019. Two days ago the fingerprint sensor stopped working, stopped appearing as a log-in option. No Windows updates, no (detectable) malware; it seems like it just shut off.  I followed previous posts' instructions to uninstall the Biometrics driver, reinstall Bios, etc., nothing has worked (also how does one re-install the biometrics driver?).

I did a hard factory reset as a last resort, but it didn't work. All subsequent attempts to install the fingerprint sensor driver from Dell directly gave me this error message "Goodix Fingerpint Device was not found".

Thank you for any advice and detailed instructions.

That is very much sounding like a hardware failure? You can try updating the Intel IO and Chipset drivers.

I bought a 5593 Inspiron in March and have probably the same Goodix reader. Does just fine setting up but after a few log ins can't recognize my finger print anymore. I basically gave up after updating and also reverting back to a previous driver. Its not worth my effort to fix it because its not something I have to have. At least mine still shows up in device manager which doesn't appear to be happening for you.
