Online commentary observes that there can be great difficulty in opening, for the first time, an XPS 17 9700's bottom case. Upon finding this true and reading the service manual in relation to this task, I bought a relatively large, metal, ifixit electronics opening tool. It was manufactured to pry the keyboard from the metal case.
