NetWorker backup types

Hi,

I am new to NetWorker. I came across two types of backup actions in the policies. They are namely "backup" and "server backup". May I know is there any difference between the two?

Thank you!

Regards,

Terence

@terc, you can get videos that can get you started with NetWorker.

In fact, this will confuse NW newbies. The purpose is that different types of data need specific treatment. And it is also important that you do not run both backups at the same time.

My advice: please learn NW basics to understand the general NW principles. NW is not a toy to sit down and learn by yourself. If your manager wants to save money, he should start looking at other opportunities.

Hi @crazyrov ,

I am trying to find out if there is a duplication of data of clients. Or perhaps, does server backup in the Server Protection Group include data of the clients in the other groups?

Regards,

Terence

Hi @bingo.1 ,

The NetWorker is already deployed, and I am taking over someone's role in managing it.

What I would like to know is whether is there a duplication of data in "Server backup" and "backup".

Thank you.

Regards,

Terence

no - as these are different data types. You will recognize the different save sets by their names.

May I recommend that you install another NW server to learn. ou do not even need a license as it will work for 90 days in eval mode.

Hi @bingo.1 ,

Unfortunately, the environment that I am in does not have spare servers to try out. The servers are already deployed and the environment does not allow for virtualisation.

Correct me if I am wrong, is the purpose of a server backup in the Server Protection group to back up only the configurations of all the other servers/clients?

Thank you.

Regards,

Terence

Your statement is unbelievable! - How does your organization believe it will professionally do the job?

As mentioned earlier, a NW server (and NMC) has its own databases to store config data (aka resources) and metadata. These need special backup procedures - therefore duplicate configurations. If you compare the details you will see that they are not the same.

Good luck with your trial & error admin tasks.
