Aurora R10, upgrade of CPU, GPU, and power supply
Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R10
Hi All,
I need a little bit of advice. I wish to upgrade my Ryzen 5 ro a Ryzen 7 and upgrade the GPU and power supply. In terms of the power supply, can i buy say a Corsair one, for example (see link) would this be ok?
Does Dell sell power supplies, as ordinarily, I'd like to just buy the required upgrades part from Dell. However, I don't see any place for that option on their website. Not to worry
And secondly, the Ryzen 7 cpu, I assume I can just buy one of those from Amazon.
But the GPU, the Alienware case seems kinda smaller than most, so I am assuming I need a "smaller" GPU card?
Any advice would be great and thanks for taking the time to read my post,

The Aurora R10 PSU is standard ATX format . . . which is 150mm wide, 86mm tall, and the length will vary. The length of the OEM PSU is 140mm, and I suggest you replace with the same length or cable management will become an issue. Consider a fully modular PSU so the cables you do not need can stay in the box.
The graphics card can be up to 274mm long and 124mm wide to install without chassis modifications. The nVidia RTX 3070 Founders Edition will fit without any modifications. The nVidia RTX 3080 Founders Edition will fit if the front fan is replaced with a 15mm fan.
For the CPU upgrade, if you do not already have the AIO liquid cooling . . . you should consider adding that for your new processor.

I'm not sure to what CPU and graphics card you will be upgrading . . . but the 850 watt PSU will give you more options. Unfortunately, that one is 160mm long. It will fit in the R10 PSU swing-out contraption, but the length will use up some of your cable management space. The 3rd party PSU cables are long to accommodate much larger cases than the R10. This is what a 140mm long PSU looks like, You would lose 20mm of space where the cables are rolled up. Still workable.

If you are going to the effort to upgrade your processor, I don't understand why you would get anything less than the maximum supported CPU . . . but maybe that's just me.

R10 gen 1 or gen2. Not the same mobo, not the same agesa. So cpu replacement would depend.

R10 gen 1 is mobo 0NWN7M, right now that would be the 3XXXX series. unless they give the new bios with higher agesa. As far as I know the 5XXXX series won't work on gen1 . gives the impression it all compatible. Can't find any mention of mobo version or model.
To find out utilities like speccy or cpu-z give the mobo board info.

Thanks for the info on the generations. I think mine is GEN 1, so I was thinking of taking Argentum's advice and going for the Ryzen 9. And take your advice and go for this one - AMD Ryzen 9 3900x Socket 4

Before purchasing a CPU consider downloading CPU-Z and confirming your motherboard part number . . . just to be sure.
