monitor/display problems

I recently was removing spyware with ad-aware SE.    Then I started to have a few
problems one of which @ start up when windows is loading up I get really big icons
and big windows with little color almost like if it was on SAFE-MODE

I get a window that says  Your display adapter conflicts with another device in your
computer.  To correct the problem, clik OK to view the properties for this device.
I press ok then I go to a

NVIDIA TNT2 M64 4XAGP (dell) properties window where it says
device type:           display adapters
manufacturer:        NVIDIA
hardware version:  021
device status.    This device cannot find any free Input/Output range (I/O) resources
to use  (code 12)    if you want to use this device, you must disable another device
that is using the resources this device needs.  To do this click hardware trouble-
shooter and follow the instructions in the wizard.

when i click on the hardware troubleshooter nothing happens.    I have been to
display properties and only found 16 colors only.  can any one help?????

I have a dimesion 4100    with fat 32 file system
windows ME version 4.90.3000
930 mhz processor
IE 6

I tried system recovery but could not restore

Your best bet is probably going to be to uninstall and reinstall your video drivers.  This may involve removing the device and associated software via both Add/Remove Programs (if there's an NVidia entry present) and Device Manager.  It would also be a good idea to check for updated drivers from Dell (assuming that the video card came with the system), although it appears that their most recent offering is dated February of 2001.  Also, Windows Update frequently shows updated NVidia drivers for those systems, so that's another potential source.  I've used the Microsoft drivers on a number of occasions, and have never had any problems with them.

Thanks Flooby

That was an awesome fix.    On a related topic, while I was in the
device manager I noticed there is several devices which are doubled
up.    With the yellow exclamation ( ! )    Like the following:

Standard 101/102 Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard
Microsoft PS/2 Port Mouse (IntelliPoint)
AOL Adapter                ( not in use )   currently using cable
AOL Dial-Up Adapter   ( not in use )   currently using cable
Direct memory access controller
Numeric data processor
Programmable interrupt controller
System  CMOS/real time clock
System speaker
System timer

My question is should I or is it safe to remove these doubled up devices

That's a new one on me - can't recall ever seeing duplicates for mice and keyboards.  As far as the AOL stuff, just uninstalling all that via Add/Remove Programs should take care of that - assuming you can uninstall it, which is frequently a big question, when it comes to AOL products.  Other than that, if all the necessary devices are working properly, I think I'd just follow the old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" axiom, and leave things as they are - working.

Flooby

Sounds like good advice to me.    I do however have other little

issues with my PC that I will post later on the forum.

Once again  thank you.
