I need a little clarification on this. I have my BIOS set to optimized default so my HyperX Fury 16x2 @ 3200Mhz which I purchased from Amazon, defaulted in the BIOS at 2400Mhz. When i'm in Windows and launch ACC, I have OC'd the RAM to 3200Mhz and created a profile in Alienware Command Center. If I open taskmgr it says my memory is running @ 2400Mhz which is what I expected. Does the OC'd profile in ACC override those values?
OK so when i'm in Alienware Command Center and click on the Fusion Tab. I have the drop down menu where I can select Ram 1 or Ram 2. Aren't those OC'ing profiles in ACC? I selected Ram 1 and saved it and the profile says the RAM would run @ 3200Mhz instead of 2400Mhz. Does that feature work in ACC?
I ask because with a prebuilt HP gaming rig they have something similar to ACC and you can OC the memory once you're in Windows if you installed 3rd party memory. I didn't because my Omen 30L came with 32GB of 3200Mhz memory.
OC isnt allowed if your ram is not XMP 2.0 certified OEM Ram. OC of Ram or CPU is not on demand and not allowed with non qualified parts. Voltage is never a setting because people over volt cpu to over clock and fry it then demand new ram and cpu when they kill it. Even Intel / AMD have started backing away from allowing overclocking or over voltage.
Adding 4266 ram @ 1.35v - 1.5v even if XMP certified does not guarantee you can over volt and over clock with reckless abandon.
Bios updates will also not work.
Mixing speed, rank, voltage, CAS, Vendors is not supported. Non Dell Validated ram is not supported.
Aftermarket HyperX Fury which I purchased from Amazon. My R10 was sold during a Dell sale with only 8GB of RAM and I did not have an option of adding more RAM to it.
- Is this the OEM HyperX, or aftermarket HyperX memory?
- If this aftermarket HyperX, it might it might not work as these machines have limited aftermarket memory support for some reason.
- It's also important not to mix memory kits, as in adding more memory to an existing memory configuration of a different brand/model #.
- Since you are wanting to run at the included XMP profile at 3,200 Mhz, I would not bother with AWCC and instead access the bios by pressing F2 as soon as you power up the PC and before the Alienware logo is displayed on your screen, and select the corresponding XMP profile from the menu.
- Since you did not specify which Alienware machine this is, I cannot provide a link to the bios setting manual, but they are mostly similar minus a few Intel/AMD specific settings.

So if I apply and restart (which ACC doesn't mention) does it change the BIOS settings or are the changes made each time I get to Windows and Command Center loads? That's what i'm still unclear about.
Edit: ACC is kind of weird how it's setup. I had to go to the ACC Home tab and that's where the OC'ing section gets loaded. I rebooted the R10 and the memory was now running at 3200Mhz. So I rebooted and it did automatically change profile. That answered my question regarding ACC OC'ing.
Yes, you need to restart because there is no way to change timings, frequency, without rebooting. The changes to OC settings cannot take effect simply by moving buttons in the window app.
If you apply AWCC timings, restart, then apply XMP in BIOS it will override whatever AWCC settings were applied. The most recent change controls. Either way AWCC or BIOS, two ways of doing the same thing. But with more glitches in AWCC.

The task manager is the current speed of your RAM, you are running at 2400.
You can verify this by pulling up CPUz, selecting the memory tab, and it will show the current timings and speed.
