Aurora R6, PSU failure, PSU test button question
I turned on my Aurora R6 the other day. It has the less-than-ideal 460w PSU (power supply unit). Now when my pc froze it crashed and I had it set to not auto-restart so I can see what happened. There was no error message. I then rebooted and It kept flashing 1 yellow, bios or rom issue. I tested the PSU because I've suspected for awhile that it was going downhill. The button turns green but the fan doesn't spin. Is the fan supposed to kick-up when the button is pressed? The fan will kick on when I stress the system through OCCT. Should I be looking into getting a aftermarket PSU ASAP? If so I was eyeing Corsair X series 750 watt 80 plus rated supply should mine fail. I think my system has been stressing the psu too much since I had to replace the rx480 that came stock with an XFX 580. Thank you.

I was just specifically curious if when I press the diagnostic button on the PSU if it was supposed to kick on the fan. IIRC it kicked on before when I pressed it.
The Owners Manual should describe how the PS-Diag button and LED works.
My guess it that the PS-Fan runs if the PS is warm/hot (including in Diag-Mode).

The aurora R6 manual doesn't state whether the fan spins when the button is pushed. I checked, thoroughly, but thank you for the suggestion.
Also it will run if stressed, like I mentioned through OCCT. So it does work. I'm just afraid it's on it's way out, something keeps making this buzzing noise, it's like fast clicking for a fraction of a second every hour or so.

1. I didn't say it would.
The Fan runs when the PS is warm/hot. (period) Has nothing to do with Diag-Test-Mode or Normal-Mode.
2. Yes, the OCCT "Power-Supply Test" is great and a good way to Stress-Test the whole machine.
3. If it sounds like a geiger-counter, it's usually a bad-bearing in Power-Supply's Cooling-Fan. A Dell Huntkey-OEM model is more likely to have this problem than the (better) Dell Delta-OEM models. Old problem from Aurora-R6 days (many old threads about it).

2. Yes, it's a very valuable testing tool.
3. That is exactly what it sounds like. Like a buzz, like drzzzzt. kinda crackling. Anyway thank you very much for your help.

The fan on the psu only spins when needed (when it gets hot). It's controlled by the psu, nothing you can do to change the fan settings.
