Hello everyone, I just purchased the aurora r7 and I noticed there are 2 open bays at the bottom. I am assuming these are 2.5 slots. I wanted to get more space so I bought the WD passport 1tb external hard drive for games. The information on the net says this method works fine as many ppl are playing games straight from it. I can’t seem to find a 2.5 solid state drive, 2, where I could put them in the desktop and go from there. Does anyone use the external hard drive method for gaming? Any advice would be deeply appreciated as well as the information. I guess what I really need to know is if the 2 open slots in the desktop are 2.5 spaces? Thank you all for your help

1. Right. I suggest you get the PDF manuals.
2. No one really does that because (external) USB-3 is very slow compared to an internal drive.
You should probably re-evaluate your storage. Something like this is better:
C: Internal SSD for Windows and all programs/apps D: Internal (spinning) HDD (or large SSD) for games E: External USB-3 WD Passport 1tb external hard drive for backups or large data/media files

Thanks for the information. I did take a moment to re evaluate my first impression of the external ssd for gaming. I’ll return the passport as I found a 1tb 2.5 ssd for the desk top, it already has a 512 ssd boot and 2 tb hdd, but I don’t want to put the games on the hdd. I’ll uave to put the virus scan on there but I am hoping that’s all. Between ffxiv and the 4 VR games I have, hoping the 1tb ssd is enough or I’ll just get a bigger one for the second bay. One more question, the ssd hd will need to be formatted before use correct?
Also I have the desktop for gaming maybe small internet surfing but definitely for ffxiv and VR games. The boot up is a 512 ssd so that’s good. I know VR can eat up space lol
