I have an Alienware 17 R3 whose GPU side fan became faulty outside of warranty (bearing died and was making a grumbling noise). To date, I've replaced the fan 3 times (not a trivial matter because the GPU side fan replacement requires full disassembly), and each time the same problem happens: the fan makes this sort of soft whistle when it's spinning up, like resonance, before quieting down again. I sourced the 3 fans from 3 completely different locations (actually 3 different countries) because I was worried about knock-offs, but the result is always exactly the same: that annoying soft whistle on spin up. I have run out of ideas about what to do. Is this a known issue? I can't face trying to buy another one and do another full system disassembly.
