If the difference in dates isn't huge, you could be conservative and install the Dell driver. It may have been tested by Dell for compatibility.

As the difference in dates widens, or once Dell ceases to issue new releases for old hardware, then the case for using drivers from component manufacturers such as Nvidia becomes more compelling

On older Dells I've worked on, often the solution to incompatibilities or performance issues is to obtain newer drivers from component manufacturers' web sites.

That's especially true as the laptops get older, since Dell often doesn't update drivers after two or three years. On my old XPS 15, getting updated drivers directly from Nvidia, Realtek and JMicron made a big difference with those components vs. the Dell packages that were many years old.

And anyway, if a chosen driver doesn't work, you can always go back to what you were using before. Having a full system image prior to updating drivers is a good practice, so it's easy to restore an image from before the update.

I would suggest is to install Dell drivers until they dont provide any more then install from Nvidia
