Cannot run Dell Storage Manager

I am tryint to run Storage Manager to Discover and Configure storage center in our development enviornment but I am getting this message:

You must be an Administrator of the localhost user to discover and initialize a Storage Center.

Exit the Client and launch it again with Administrator rights (On Windows this may require using the 'Run as Administrator' command).

I've tried running as an administrator on my windows 10 machine but get the same message.

I am using DSM 2020 R1.

Still, the same issue with the new version or even the old version.
Is the Dell team working on this? It's been more the 3 years now.

    Hello Mitesh Raval,

Have you followed the step above and making sure that you are using a local admin account and not a domain administrator? With the install of DSM it needs to be install on a localhost system prior to going out to search on your network.

    Mikemaggio12,

To confirm, would you clarify if you have local administrator rights, and not domain administrator rights? I ask as localhost will require local administrator rights, not domain.

Let me know and we can go from there.

@DELL-Chris H Thanks Chris. I am using domain admin rights. I will try with local admin rights and see what happens.

I did some research on the issue and wanted to confirm if in your configuration if both the storage and client are on the same switch or not?

I ask as it appears that if you install both the DSM DC and the DSM Client on the same server connected to the switch, with the SCv2020 management ports, you should be able to proceed with Run as Administrator method. So basically, if your server is on a different switch, I would move it to the same switch as the SCv2020 and try to run the Discover again

Let me know what you see.

    Carabinas,

Would you confirm if you installed both the DSM DC and the DSM Client on the same server connected to the switch as my previous post stated?

I ask as it is what is needed to get it to work.

Let me know if this helps.

    Hi,

I have the same issue, i've installed the Dell storage manager client.

also made local account and added that account to the local administrators group.

i get the same error as stated above.

Hi, I would check the same steps mentioned in this thread. If the all steps are taken and still have the issue then I can recommend contacting your local support team for advanced troubleshooting.

    in summary:

    1. Local Administrator Rights: Make sure you have local administrator rights, not domain administrator rights.

    2. Same Switch: Ensure that both your storage and client are connected to the same network switch. If they’re on different switches, you might want to consider relocating your server to the same switch as the SCv2020 and then attempting to run the Discover process again.

    3. Reinstall DSM: Consider reinstalling the Dell Storage Manager Client. Don’t forget to install the most recent version that’s compatible with your system.
