Storage Profile Default Behavior ?

Hi all,

Before the question, here is my system :

- SC8000 :  6.3.10.106

- 3 Tiers : SSD / 15K / 7K

Because of a limited SSD Tier, I can't put all my volumes in "Recommended" profile. So, very soon in the life of my system, copilot support adviced me to put the system in "manuel" mode" and to create some custom profiles that fit applications' requirements.

Ok... so custom profiles are rather simple to create and configure but something is not very clear, neither in the creation wizard, nor in the documentation : what happens when a Tier/Raid is full ? Where is written the new data ? What's the default behavior of the system ?

Just a classic example with this storage profile that I will call "Medium + Low" :

- Writable on Tier 2 - RAID10

- Replay on Tier 2 - RAID5-9, then Tier 3 RAID 6-10.

In this case, what happens if Tier 2 -RAID10 is full. Does the system will write on Tier2 - RAID5-9 ? or will try to write before on Tier3 - RAID10-DM (that I want to avoid !) ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You would have to test to be sure, but I think this would be the sequence:

Write on Tier 2 R10 - If full go to next allowed tier

Write Tier 2 R5 - If full go to next allowed tier

Write Tier 3 R6 - If full go to next tier with free space to prevent the write from being rejected.

Thanks for the answer. It's what I would say too... but the problem is the lack of documentation on this point..

And it's not so easy to test.
