aliascreate, zonecreate are not creating anything

the result of alicreate "ESXI02_p1", "10:00:00:10:9b:33:81:81" is null

this is on 8.0 as both Admin and Root.

  • perform an alishow before the command
  • run the alicreate
  • perform an alishow after the command = no change

additionally

  • run alicreate "alias" "wwn"
  • run zonecreate "alias" "members"
  • run cfgadd "cfg" "zonealias"
  • run cfgsave "cfg"
  • run cfgenable - tells me the zone "zonealias" doesn't exist

In both Root and Admin

do I have to "switchdisable" first? I don't have that captured in any of my previous putty logs.

    Hello BlairTVD,

Here is a link to a KB that maybe of assistance.  https://dell.to/3Zh1UyZ

Which connectrix switch do you have as you didn’t state that in your post?  I am guessing that you are on version 8 FOS as you did state that.

    Hello BlairTVD,

I am glad that you opened a support case for this as that is what I was going to suggest next as it is strange that you can’t create alias using the steps provided.

    It is a 6505 running v8 FOS

And those instructions in the link are the instructions that result in 0 changes to the switch configuration.

    Alicreate does not create aliases

    zonecreate does not create zones

cfgadd does not add zones to the cfg

We have a ticket open and completed the round of diagnostics with the technician, now waiting for an engineer.

Something similar happened with a SAN-24B of a similar age but neither Broadcom nor IBM would commit to a diagnosis.

    Hi Blair,

I'm trying to find the ticket, and see what progress is made and what the actual problem is. Can you PM me the SR number.

    thanks,

    Ed
