Currently we have San HQ installed on a physical R720.

However, with the latest update (3.1), the documentation shows that Windows 2008 R2 is no longer a supported OS. As we are a govt agency with no budget to replace the physical server (or the OS that came with it) anytime soon, the only option we can go to a supported OS is via the virtual 2012 DC licence we have...

Now I realise that putting SAN HQ on a virtual server is not ideal, after all, if there is a problem with the SAN, it most likely would bring the virtual system down, but it's the only way I can see to keep SAN HQ up to date and still be compliant for Dell support (if we ever need it).

P.S. Can a Dell rep maybe shed some light why a minor version update in SAN HQ has led to the removal of support for an OS that Microsoft will still be supporting for almost half a decade to come?
