I have a MD 3000 disk unit with 9 73GB hard drives configured raid 10. I want to add some 450GB hard drives in the empty slots and creat a raid 5 disk unit. I have two 2950's attached to the MD 3000 in redunted mode and I want to know if either server (running VM 4.0 with several VMs) will be permitted access this second raid 5 disk unit, and can I create mulitple logical drives and assign them indepentely to each VM on each server....
The current config is 1 LUN and a single partion that will be shared with 1 VM. I know nothing about spilt mode, I believe the config. was to have the clustered fail over on the 2 2950's attached to the MD 3000. I want to add addition drives and config them say Raid 5 if possible and have them carved up into serveral Partions that can be accessed by mulitple VM's on both servers (if possible), that's my questions in a nut shell is all of this possible?????
The MD line is designed to expand and should allow for your additional disks. You can have different disks with different raid levels in the same chassis so your config of raid 10 and raid 5 is possiable. Once you have the disk group created with raid 5 you should be able to assigne volumes for lun's to different hosts carved up as you need.
Are you looking to have a VM on each lun or do you want to have the VM access the new lun you want to add? Only the ESX host will have access to the disks so you must present them to the virtual hosts as a new VMDK.

How do you have the 9 disk carved out to each host? I would also guess that you are not running the array chassis in split mode, right?
