I'm not a storage guy.
We have a PS6500 ISCSI to ESX, running 2k8 guest
My question is, can we take advantage of the SMB2.0 offered by Windows 2008
Or, even thought Windows 2k8 serves SMB 2.0. Because the ESX is using ISCSI to the PS6500, it is not possible

- apologies for being unclear, its all new.
There is a Equalogic San connected to a ESX host via ISCI.
The datastores on the ESX server reside on the SAN
I create a Windows 2008 R2 VM on the ESX server.
Will I bennifit from the SMB 2.0 protocol upgrade thwat Windows 2008 R2 offers? Or No, because the VMDK file resides on the SAN using ISCSI ?

All communication to the SAN is going to be handled by ESX. The VM does not even know about the SAN. All it knows is that you presented it a disk drive, either IDE or SCSI. So no, I do not think you would see any benifit inside the VM.

I understand you have a Windows 2008 virtual machine running on an ESX based host. Your question is about SMB2.0 offered in Windows 2008, but I am not sure what that is. Are you referring to the Small Business Server 2008 that Microsoft offers? And can that be run as a virtual machine?
