HPAV enabling procedure

Hi,

I have one simple question according enabling HPAV on DMX-3. Is this procedure (on DMX-3) on-line for z/OS point of view ?

In EMC white paper ‘Exploiting HyperPAV in EMC Symm Environments’ there is information that disc director should be offline for each LSS. So, in fact the question is: is it possible to do it without stopping I/O ?

Just in case: we have proper CU emulation (C2107), proper microcode level and we are using dynamic PAV.

Regards

Marcin

    Marcin,

    The aforementioned W/P is here:

    http://powerlink.emc.com/km/live1/en_US/Offering_Technical/White_Paper/h4278-expltng-hyperpav-emc-symmetrix-emc-envnmt-wp.pdf

It's protected against selective copy , or I'd quote it here...  On page 14, about mid page right above figure 7 it says 'this can only be done while the FICON directors ...are offline.'  I think that & previous context means stopping i/o.

    Correct,

I’ve just received confirmation form EMC support, that this procedure really needs to offline LSS. So it means in fact stop I/O.
