Inspiron 7577 thunderbolt g-sync
Hello
Does any1 know if u can achieve g-sync over thunderbolt 3 connection to external monitor in this laptop? I heard the output - in this case thunderbolt 3 usb type-c port - has to be directly wired to dGPU ( gtx 1060 max q) or have option to skip iGPU and connect directly to dGPU. Is this the case for this laptop ? Or even when i connect to external monitor using thunderbolt 3 port ( then converted to DP), my main gpu - gtx 1060 - renders frames and then sends them to intel HD630 and this one diplsay them on external monitor?

It's correct that G-Sync requires that the display output be directly connected to the NVIDIA GPU. It also requires that you use DisplayPort, in this case a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter/cable -- not USB-C to HDMI, for example. However, every Dell laptop I know of has the USB-C/TB3 port wired to the Intel GPU, even gaming-oriented Alienware systems. The only partial exceptions are the the newer Precision 7000 Series models, which have a BIOS option that allows you to choose which GPU controls which outputs. That's possible because those systems have motherboards that include DisplayPort multiplexers, so basically every display output (including the one wired to the built-in display) is connected to the multiplexers, and the multiplexers are then wired back to BOTH the Intel and NVIDIA GPUs. The BIOS option determines which GPU path is active at any given time. But I don't know of any other systems that work that way.
