SSD for inspiron 3521
Hi there.
is it possible to upgrade my laptop hard drive to SSD.
I have dell inspiron 3521 laptop that has Intel Core i3-3217U 1.8 GHz processor . I'm not sure if it's possible to upgrade my HDD to new SSD . Currently i have 500GB SATA one..

Hi . Thanks for info . I checked my Specification docs on dell site . Yea . my laptop will not support for SSD .

Just for future guests, Dell notebooks does support SATA SSD drives, I have replaced a handful of HDD with Samsung SSD's. Makes for an awesome upgrade.

If i want to replace CD ROM with SSD will it work? Actually i don't wan to remove Hard drive. I need both hard drive and ssd at same time.

You would want to change the SSD for your OS and hard drive in the optical bay. you would need to find the Replacement tray to install the hard drive in your optical bay. SSD if for speed that your OS needs Hard drive for storage data speed dosn't matter that much most of the time. Your OS is always running

Everything I find online contradicts this idea that the computer doesn't support SSD drives. I find it suspect that dell does hardware doesn't allow for upgrades that would prevent consumers from continuing to purchase more hardware from the manufacturer. It is a bad way to do business.
I'd like to know why or how Dell was able to make the hard drive provided unable to upgrade to SSD?

No idea what you are typing about? if You have a standard 2.5 notebook hard drive you can replace it with a 2.5 SATA SSD. hello @JOcean it might be a while since ur post, but I'm trying to find out whether or not my Inspiron 15 3521 has or not, an m.2. ssd input. Also, my dell is second hand, and for some reason the old owner removed the service tag sticker. is there a way I can find out the tag number offline? the motherboard rusted and I need to buy a new one.

That model does not have an M.2 port. only 2.5" SATA. As for the service tag, go to this site and type in your model. Then at the 3521 support page click on detect PC and it should be able to scan the system for the service tag number. Alternatively you can find that information based on the directions at the Dell support page here.

As Clint said above YES you can replace this 2.5" HDD with a SATA SSD.

The 3521 spec sheet simply calls for one 2.5" SATA drive with no capacity given. However Crucial has up to a 2 TB SSD and guarantees it as 100% compatible. So yes you can upgrade to a 2.5" SSD to replace the HDD currently in your system.
