Without the model number, it's difficult to be specific with an recommendation. That said, run a screen diagnostic (hold the D key through powerup). That will initiate a series of self-test screens. If they show the same fault, the display panel needs to be replaced.
If the test screens are OK, it could be the display cable, a bad GPU or bad mainboard.
