Isilon X210 internal temperature thresholds

Hello,

I have got a customer who gets occasionally temperature alerts/resolved mails on his Isilon X210 cluster. (see below)

My questions are,

1) what is are the threshold that triggers temperature alarms?

2) what is the difference between PS STATUS REG 2: Internal, Temperature and  PS STATUS REG 1: Internal, Temperature ? Does this mean that power supply 1 and power supply 2 are affected?

    HI r.spiess,

Yes, these messages are in regards to each of the power supplies. There is a knowledge base article that goes into a little more detail regarding the PS STATUS REG alert.

    From the article:

For most of these event messages, contact EMC Isilon Technical Support for a power supply replacement. If the event message specifies a temperature or power supply input issue, verify that the ambient temperature where the cluster is located has not exceeded the recommended specifications and verify that your power source is functional.

    https://support.emc.com/kb/465440

Here is an older article about what the temperature thresholds are:

    https://support.emc.com/kb/317672

    Temp Power Supply

    Low

    Warning: 5C

    Critical: 3C

    High

    Warning: 100C

    Critical: 102C

I don't know if they changed in 8.0, but it is unlikely as the thresholds are set by the manufacturer.

One other thing to note is that the A100 and any of the "10" series nodes (X210, NL410, etc.) are prone to false alerts for these type of alerts. The sensors in these nodes alert and then verify if there is a problem. The alerts that you listed show as resolved, so it is likely that is what is happening here.

If there is any doubt or still concern however, I would recommend opening a ticket with Isilon Support

    https://support.emc.com/servicecenter/createSR

If there are specific power supplies that seem to be repeat offenders, they may try replacing them.
