Question about Dell Latitude E6500
I found one in the trash a few years ago and have been using it since then. I have moved away from casual Reddit browsing and Dwarf Fortress playing and in to some web development(I am an absolute beginner) and I am running in to problems with this laptop. It doesn't charge, it must always be plugged in and the plug is always loose, it also gets hot and has a hard time doing CPU or GPU moderate tasks.
My question is, should I replace the battery or is it not worth it? Also, I know that a lot about this lap top is customizable but is there anything I can do to improve its performance?
It sounds more like the issue with charging is the AC adapter plug or DC jack. As for overheating, the system is about 14 years old - if it's never been internally cleaned and had the thermal pads replaced, that's far overdue.
Any more than that will run you up against the fact that you're putting money into a system that's not worth more than $50. Even replacing the AC adapter and DC jack will run that much or close to it -- whatever you might spend keeping this system running might be better spent on a new(er) system.

The laptop is around 10-12 years old. For example it is compatible with DDR2 RAM (that goes back some time ago) and a single SATA drive. That being said I would not invest additional funds in an attempt to improve performance. In respects to the charging problem it could be a dead battery, faulty adapter or worn DC jack (which would account for the loose fit of the adapter. Run diagnostics (tap F12 immediately at boot) and watch for any adapter or battery problems.
