Windows 10 Activation / license

We've recently had a motherboard and SSD replacement under warranty on one of our Latitudes. It came with a key card with an activation key, but when doing a cleam install the motherboard already seems to have the embedded key.

Can anyone confirm what the situation is here? I assume that the embedded key willl continue to work for the life of the device, so why is the activation key supplied?

Thanks

It used to be that replacement boards came without the activation key -- newer ones may include it.  If it's there, it'll always be there assuming the board is not changed once again.
