12.10 Hibernate Issues

Installed 12.10 and added the PPA's manually.

Now if I try to hibernate I get an error and the machine shuts down.

Anyone else having this issue?  I will write down the error message and post it when I get a chance as to be more specific.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Based on the device id it looks like something with the i8042 ps/2 keyboard chip (PNP0303), more info here: bugs.launchpad.net/.../1094595

I made it work doing this:

    In a console run:

        sudo apt-get install uswusp

Then you can try to suspend your computer with:

        sudo s2ram

    or hibernate with

        sudo s2disk

If that works for you then just reboot and you should be able to hibernate later from the usual button (on the top right on Unity Desktop and selecting Hibernate).

I made a short tutorial of this and other issues for Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition available here.

    Hi,

this does not work for me. When resuming, it says hangs in the splash screen 'resuming from /dev/ '

I am really annoyed by this...I wanted a system that 'just works', but there are a couple of things that don't (wifi needs latest kernel, come on guys, TEST this stuff!)

I totally agree with you with the system that 'just works'... I was very disappointed by that, I thought: "if this might be the best Ubuntu laptop (prices, brand, support), how would it have been if I tried another laptop and work my way in by myself? How about recommending it to a Windows or Mac user?"

Nevertheless, I think is a very nice ultrabook, and since I could solve the issues with it, right now I'm happy.

About the error, did you made any additional change to partitions when installing? It fails when resuming from hibernate or from suspend? Does it happens executing directly the commands (s2ram, s2disk)?

    Sorry for the late reply!

It happens on resuming. I see the percentage counting when going to hibernate (using the menu option, s2disk does same thing), then it shuts down...

    next it hangs on boot...

I have not changed the system apart from using the Quantal kernel to fix the WiFi issue...still using 12.04...

Hi! I'm sorry I haven't had the time to check this, but when did you buy the XPS 13? Maybe the model is slightly different?

Also here are some instructions on how to debug hibernate errors (didn't work for me though, but maybe to you).

Do you have encrypted home or swap?
