Dual booting FD4 on Separate HD

Hello, Im still pretty new to linux. I have a Dim 8600 and dual HD in them. I wanted to put Linux on just one of the HD and have a dual boot system, FD4 and XP. I was able to install linux on the HD I wanted, but I cannot get my system to Dual boot. Does anyone have any suggestions or info that could help me out?

I only tried to do the graphical install of Linux, so If you know where I went awry there it would be helpful.

Thanks

I had the same problem on my Dim 4550. After a complete base install on a new clean HD, the grub utility crashed on startup. All I got was Error 21 freezeup. Error 21 is undefined, reserved for all things that there is no known fix for. It is most definitely a hardware problem (apparently unique to Dell). I am now running a clean Linux install on a PIII Gateway. I have upgraded the vid card and memory on the Dim, it is now a lowly dedicated media PC for the big screen. I will only buy another Dell when they start using off the shelf hardware again. I will be going back to building my own PC's

This is a GRUB stage 2 error:

21 : Selected disk does not exist This error is returned if the device part of a device- or full file name refers to a disk or BIOS device that is not present or not recognized by the BIOS in the system.

Try going into your BIOS and setting the specific parameters of your hard drives rather than using the "auto" setting.

I have installed a few different distros on my 8300's 2nd hard drive.  You say you can not dual boot.  Are you only able to boot to Windows after the install?

Yeah, When I boot, after the bios loads it goes right to windows. I dont get any error messages, I dont get anything. The BIOS will load like it always has, and then it starts windows. I am thinking I didnt configure GRUB right...but I dont know how exactly I should set it up, and im a bit apprehensive about stuff in the BIOS
