Installing Linux on Studio Laptops
I would like to buy a Studio 15/17 laptop and install Linux [ubuntu], but keep Vista. Ideally, it would boot to a selection screen to choose. I have two areas of questions. 1) what are the issues associated with loading Ubuntu onto a Studio and 2) how's the best way to go about doing it?
Concerning the first area:
Will the latest version of the free Ubuntu run all the hardware of a Studio 15/17? I.e. the Dell wireless card? The backlight feature for the keyboard? Are there any known disconnect problems? Fingerprint reader? I seldom print from a laptop, so print drivers are not much of an issue for me. What other concerns may I run into or encounter in doing this? Especially in the connection between this set of hardware and this software?
Concerning the second:
What are the steps to actually loading Ubuntu? Are there any special issues I need to know before starting down this path? I would appreciate all the advice I can get before I launch down this path.
Robert

Welcome to the Forums Robert. ;)
I think the main problems you'll run into are the Dell wireless card and the (possibly) ATi video driver.
The Dell wireless cards generally involve some sort of trickery to get them to work, the intel cards are a lot more clearcut - they work from the get go.
Here's a link about it:

One of the best things for you to do would be to head over to ubuntuforums.org and run searches there for what you want, or even ask the people there.
I use it - The members there are quite helpful and it's very active.
As for dual booting Ubuntu and Vista have a look at this link:
