Problem with two ethernet cards

I recently purchased a couple Inspiron 530N machines and would like to run them with two ethernet cards. I installed a PCI gigabit ethernet card and now the on board lan is not recognized, although the gigabit is. I checked the bios and on board LAN is enabled, I downloaded the most recent version of e1000 drivers and installed them, as I've seen on other forums that there were problems without them, and gigabit is working fine, but the other interface does not load.

Here's the error I get

root@openfiler1:~# /etc/init.d/networking restart

* Reconfiguring network interfaces... eth1: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device

SIOCSIFADDR: No such device

eth1: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device

SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device

eth1: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device

Failed to bring up eth1.

Here is my interfaces file:

# The loopback network interface

auto lo

iface lo inet loopback

# The primary network interface

iface eth0 inet static

address 192.168.1.195

netmask 255.255.255.0

auto eth0

iface eth1 inet static

address 192.168.2.195

netmask 255.255.255.0

auto eth1

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Dee

I too am experiencing the exact same problem. Installed two additional nic cards but cannot get the kernal to recognize both the 2 additional nics and the internal nic......only one or the other. If I take the 2 additional nics out, then the internal comes back. The output of "lshw -C network" shows: *-network UNCLAIMED description: Ethernet controller ....blah blah...etc.etc tried to reinstall the latest e1000 driver, but no luck. If I cant run 3 interfaces then this box is useless to me and I will not be able to use Dell products. Does anyone have any recommendations.
