Will Dell propose computers without preinstalled OS ??

Hi,

I see Dell is showing more Tux on their website... Good ! :-)

I've a request : will Dell propose computers without installed OS ?

I've see this options since months for servers.
It should be great if this would be the case for ALL your products (desktop, laptop).

In many countries, force to have windows is see as an abuse. (lawers call id "forced sell" I guess).
I've also read somewhere than Dell is asking money to have no windows preinstalled ! (incredible!!!)

So thanks to think about GNU/Linux users, who doesn't want any windows.
Also, even if you'll propose featured distro like RH, I think having the ability to choose a computer without any OS is good liberty for people who use other distros, like Mandrake, Debian or FreeBSD for example.

Thanks in advance, you're on the good way !

I know it's possible for servers, as I write above.

But I would like to see this option for EVERY Dell computers !!
That is laptops, desktops, and of course servers.

I use Mandrake on my Latitiude C610 since years, all is working fine, so I don't wanna pay to have a windows 2k, XP or whatever if I don't use it !!

Admit it's sad to have a preinstalled OS you have paid for, and that you will erase (first thing I've done) and never use !

That is OUTLAW and fully illegal (here at least) !

    Also see http://home.tvd.be/cr26864/DELL_and_MS.html
    and http://www.netcraft.com.au/geoffrey/toshiba.html

Also, the MS licence tells :
If you do not agree to the terms of this EULA, PC Manufacturer and Microsoft are unwilling to license the SOFTWARE PRODUCT to you. In such event, you may not use or copy the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, and you should promptly contact PC Manufacturer for instructions on return of the unused products(s) for a refund.

The differents refund that have been successfull show that MS products costs 25% of the total price !!

So please, Dell, let YOUR users to have the LIBERTY to CHOOSE if they'll use windows or anything else.

hehe I know your pain :) I really wish it was an option. I too am stuck with Windows (WinXP Home) I have never used or plan too. I was short on time and couldn't argue for a blank. I read the EULA and couldn't agree (plan to dual boot initally) I tried to return it for the refund (per the EULA) but only got a run around and now no returned emails :(

But in my many phone and email with Dell a tech mentioned he would start a job order to get Linux installed, it was decent of him, but Im a Slack man and I had already set it up. So atlest theres hope.
