Alienware M18x compatibility question

Hi all,

Today i just tried to build my own configuration for m18x for future purchase. I chose SSD 256 Gb and nvidia GTX 680M - SLI Enabled. But i have been provided with the following message:

Compatibility Instructions

Errors:
The dual Video Card that you have selected is not compatible with the Solid State Hard Drive option that is selected. Please click on one of the links and update the selection.

Is that true that SSD 256 Gb and 680 SLI are incompatible? I don't believe. Please, clarify.

Dear DELL, please fix that issue, because SSD and Nvidia GTX-680 SLI can be installed together.

only way i can see this as an issue is if the SSD was a PCI-E card  and uses the second card slot.

I don't get it ether. You can pick the GTX 675m SLI or HD 7970 CrossfireX option with the SSD but not the GTX 680m SLI. I can't think of what would be so different between the 680m and 675m to prevent it from working/installing with the SSD.

If the SSD was PCI-E then it wouldn't work with the 675m SLI or 7970m CrossfireX configuration ether. It must be an issue with the site. That is the only logical explanation.

    Hello AleksandrG,

I'm sorry for the trouble you are having with the configuration of the M18x. You should call Dell sales and have them make it for you. I am sure they can do it from their end.

I am almost 100% sure it's just an issue with the website. I can't see any other reason for it. If you can you should try calling someone at Dell sales.

    AleksandrG,

Our apologies. We imposed that restriction on the sales while investigating an issue. When it is resolved, we will remove the restriction. I cannot give you any details or an ETA.

    Hiya Chris.

I wonder, does this issue by any chance have anything to do with Windows 8 and Alien Respawn? - there are a few members over on NoteBookReview Forums that are experiencing some rather odd AWR behaviour when trying to install it. Myself and another M18x owner are having EXACTLY the same problems and we both have Windows 8, an Nvidia GPU solution and, guess what....Dell SSD's.

If you wanna check out the NBR thread, you can do so here: forum.notebookreview.com/.../576732-how-preserve-alienrespawn-stock-drive-aftermarket-drive-alienrespawn-q-28.html - from around page 26 onwards should do it.....also you could review the last few pages of the NBR official Windows 8 Support Thread here: forum.notebookreview.com/.../695478-official-alienware-official-windows-8-support-thread-8.html - from around page 8 for this thread.

Looking forward to hearing back from you!

    Regards,

    Steve.
