Pre-Dell Alienware AlienFX Lighting Issues
The lighting on my AlienWare Area-51 ALX bought in 2008 never had any problems. However, today i purchased the alienware laptop and keyboard and upon installing the drivers it messed up my desktops lights. Now all the LED's on the desktop flash random colours consistently, like a flickering. Upon opening the newly installed command centre, it recognises the mouse + keyboard but the desktop is a "?" and does not allow any customisation. I have tried to reformat my HDD, install windows only with Command centre but it says my CPU is not supported when before the software was working. Please can someone help me get this fixed. Is there anyway to get a legacy driver/software for AlienFX?

Hi,
Yes it was the TactX Keyboard and mouse. I used the CD provided with them. I can't seem to locate the Service Tag? My system was purchased in 2007. I think I need an older version of command center / AlienFX as the version from the disc will not recognise my PC. It either displays a "?" while detecting the Keyboard and mouse perfectly, or displays a laptop but of course changing the colour settings doesn't do anything on the desktop. Or shows a laptop with a yellow triangle error symbol on it. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing command centre. I have tried re-formatting my PC with Windows Vista and installing command center. I have also tried re-formatting the PC and installing Windows 7 and installing Command Center. Again, the software cannot detect my PC but it detects the keyboard and mouse perfectly. I have downloaded older versions of command center from dell.com however when I try to install the software I get the error message saying "this software can only be installed on dell machines" even though it's an older version of AlienFX. Please help me to try and fix this.
Thanks.DELL-Chris M

exosnex,
None of the Dell Command Centers will function with your pre-Dell Alienware desktop. We do not provide links to the pre-Dell software. You have to get the pre-Dell drivers and software from the old hive.

Which version of Windows are you using?
Be very careful on the order you install the programs. Do them out of order and it can disable your lights board.

Hi, I take it your talking about a Tactx keyboard and mouse?
What drivers did you use when you done the install, were they from a DVD that come with the keyboard and mouse or did you download them from the Dell website?
Try this before you panic.
Go to the dell support website and enter your service tag (google - dell home user support if you cant find it)
Go to the drivers section and download the command center driver associated with your operating system and service tag.
Uninstall your current version of command center.
Restart your computer.
Install the command center driver you just downloaded from the dell website.
With a bit of luck this will fix the problem.
